Japan’s History…
Japan was originally known as 倭 (wa) or 倭国 (wakoku), but the kanji 倭 “submissive” was used. Japan modified the character to a new “wa” which is 和 and signifies “peace.” It was then coupled with, 大 dai (meaning “big” or “great”) to form 大和, which is read as Yamato.
